Beechworth into their third grand final in four years

Beechworth A3 team is in to the A3 Grand Final in the Ovens & Murray Bowls Pennant Season after their second amazing comeback of the finals, this time against Bright on Saturday.

After their 97-95 comeback win against Wangaratta last week in the Elimination Final, Beechworth were again slow to get started after been 21-33 after 32 ends, and were still struggling been 66-86 down with 80 of the 100 ends competed. However Beechworth won 14 of the final 20 ends to get up 97-95 to book their third Grand Final in 4 years.

The best team of the day by winning the last 8 ends after been 12-19 down was B. Fitzpatrick [S], A. Barbero, B. Walch and S. Gardner who end up winning 30-19 over J. Bates team. The team of W. Page [S], K. Waring, T. Chambeyron and S. Cameron had a 23-18 shot win over P. O’Neil team. The team of I. Soulsby [S], C. Sunderland, P. Keogh and I. Murray had a 23-27 shot loss to P. O’Shea team. The team of R. Bayliss [S], R. Robinson, R. Howard and S. Kelly battled all day with no luck been 12-30 down with only 4 ends to go, but finished 21-31 down to L. Symons team. Beechworth will now take on Wodonga at the Wangaratta Bowls Club on Sunday at 1:00pm. Both teams have shared the honours this season with Wodonga winning their first battle 104-81 in round two and Beechworth winning their second battle 103-88 in round nine. Beechworth lost the A3 Grand Final in 2010-11 to Moira Benalla by 71-121, however won 115-78 against Yarrawonga/Mulwala GCR in the 2011-12 Grand Final.

Beechworth B3 team have missed out on playing their second straight Grand Final after their 54-62 shot lost to Wodonga on Saturday. The best team of the day was I. Sekulic [S], G. Crutchett, R. Holmes and G. Sinclair with their 25-23 shot win over G. Fitzmaurice team. The team of G. Lockwood [S], T. Bright, J. Chambeyron and P. Henderson had a 15-16 shot lost to S. Mauchline team and the team of L. Smart [S], G. Bailey, G. Smart and R. Saunders had a 14-23 shot lost to L. Gook team. The result means Beechworth B3 team finished the season third.

Beechworth Midweek team are also into the Grand Final after their 67-65 shot win over Ovens last week. They will now take on Wangaratta this week at the Wangaratta Bowls Club. Both teams have shared the honours this season with Wangaratta winning their first battle 66-58 in round five and Beechworth winning second battle 74-70 in round twelve.
